I've been a bit slack lately when it comes to posting about the books I've read. The reading hasn't stopped! I'll play a bit of catch-up. First up: A Brief Affair by Alex Miller (Allen & Unwin, 2022). I loved this book. In brief it tells the story of Fran who is somewhat happy with her life and career but feels there should be something more (sounds a bit like my Anna!). The affair itself isn't really the focus of the story but rather a symptom of everything Fran feels and a trigger for change. A series of events force to her consider what she wants and where she is going and finally be brave enough to make change. I won't spoil the ending but I love it. It tells a story of how deep love doesn't look as we expect it should and sometimes it is our own fears and insecurities that stop us from falling into it. Lot's of similarities to Dust in the way it approaches the true nature of love and life changes but if I tell you what they are I'd spoil the plot! If you are someone toying with the idea of how to change your life to turn it into the life you thought you would have I very much recommend reading this. Enjoy.
