It was an absolute race against the clock tonight. I knew the surf was huge at Birubi Beach, Port Stephens, at precisely 4.30pm this afternoon. I finish work in Newcastle at 4.30pm. Sunset: 5.08pm. My plan? Finish work, run to the car in high heels, drive within the speed limit along Nelson Bay Road without getting caught in slow traffic and get to Birubi Beach before the light was gone. Maybe doable? I only realised on arrival the flaw in my plan... Once at the beach I would need to change shoes and run about 800m to get to the point to actually get a view of Birubi Beach worth photographing....
Ok so I caught the last of the light. But the contrast between the soft skies and raging seas was certainly worth the run. For those interested this was taken with my beautiful Sony Apha7RIII Full frame mirrorless (which I love) with the Vario-Tessar T* Full Frame E-Mount FE 24-70 F4 Zeiss OSS. I changed the settings so many times because I couldn't see in the wind but we landed on ISO640 f/4 1/10s I did take the tripod out to try some longer exposure photos as it got darker but I was getting blown off my feet so I didn't bother - recipe for disaster. Tell you what - living in beautiful Port Stephens with the amazing Sony camera it is hard to have a day job sometimes.
